Interesting French...

Well I have been in France for a while and let me tell you one thing I have found to be very true...everything is in French! Oh and everyone speaks French which is very intriguing and yet very irritating at times. It turns out that both languages (English and French) have many of the same words that are just pronounced totally differently. This is great once you understand the correct pronunciation or as I have begun to do think like the French. After that I find many conversations are easy to get the jest of even if I don't fully know what is being said. There is always that one question though which you don't understand and that is asked to you right when you just want to hand the person money to pay for whats in your hand. So I just speak something in English which confuses them just as much and they drop it! LOL

There are however words in both languages that mean totally different things! A great example of this is the word Douche. I was walking through the place I was staying and one of the help was showing another girl around. She was saying douche this...douche that around the bathroom area. I was passing in the hall and was very surprised at how open the French were with each other. I mean they even saw me passing and it did not even phase them! Of course I later consulted my dictionary and found out it what it really meant. Douche is French for shower. So I douche every day and most French I have found also douche every day. The first time I heard the word used though was very funny. This makes for a great story in both French and English because its a perfect example of the same word having an entirely different meaning and it is really funny from both prospectives. On another day I heard two people talking about fucking. Or at least that is what I thought. It was fuck this...and fuck that and because there were others speaking English with them I just assumed one person (or more) had had a bad day. Turns out the word was phoque and it means seal. The three French had been talking about a local aquarium!

Oh and I am forced to eat French bread and cheese with French wine every day! Its horrible...lol. Its actually really cheap and even the really cheap stuff is better then anything in the States.

Okay, I think all this French is making you forget your English. The word you want is jist, not jest as in court jester.... Maybe it's the wine... How come you say you are in France, but the postcard I just got was from Italy? Thank you very much by the way. I don't understand. It there now two David's. Did they clone you? Great, more bread and cheese to eat. Have you had enough of being over there or can you just go on and on? Do you miss anything about here? I douche too, but not every day. Chris likes a hardy douche too, but only if its really hot...

You are so funny David (and Denise)! I love my postcard too! Thank you, Thank you! I have it taped to my desk - it is the most amazing castle I have ever seen. I just watched a show on Da Vinci last night. He was from a town outside of Florence (they still have his home there)and he spent a lot of time in Milan working for the Duke of Milan around 1469. He also worked under Ceasar Borgia(scary dude) in Rome. I hope you get to check some of that out in Italy! How exciting. Remember everything because Ron and I want to quiz you because hopefully someday soon we will get to go there too! Love You and stay safe!

Yes, the old people are still around. I also want to thankyou for our postcard. I'm sure ours was the best one. It must have been tough for you living on bread, cheeze, and French wine. I suppose now you'll be suffering with a little German beer. I'm waiting to hear about Munchen (having actually been there) maybe you might include a picture or two:) I understand you and Jill were to meet for dinner last night?
Colleen have fun on the island! I would love to snorkel in those waters. Let us know how you're doing. I wonder if they know what the internet is down there? Those were some nice things you wrote about Gaga & my visit. I too had a tear in my eye. Denise I'm sorry to hear about Aslin's coming operation. I sure hope all goes well. I don't think I ever told you how much I enjoyed reading the Aslin Choi's Chronicles, but I really did and I found Chris comments so interesting about the difference in cultures. Love you all. Even you Michael :) Your Uncle Terry.
